Mr. and Mrs. Buck Mangen have been fixtures in the Northmont community since 1967. Barb worked in the Northmont High School cafeteria for 19 years while raising their four children. She was a friendly face who was always welcoming to students and staff. Buck coached little league baseball and softball in the Northmont community, he served as the President of the Thunderback Club, and after he retired from 35 years of being a Corrective Therapist, he began working on the school grounds. Buck and Barb showed compassion, hard work, and respect to staff, students, and athletes. Buck and Barb raised four children, all who graduated from Northmont and who collectively went to school for over 41 years. Nine grandchildren have graduated from Northmont, and the youngest is in middle school. Buck and Barb started a legacy of helping others, and it has only continued over decades at Northmont with their children and now grandchildren. They chose this community knowing this is where they wanted to raise a family; little did they know their children would then raise their own children here 50 plus years later. The Mangen family created a scholarship in Buck’s name after his passing in 2011 for the Athletic Department and have been able to give a scholarship every year since 2011. Barb and Buck showed unconditional love and support. They supported the levies, Students, and teams. Their presence was/is known and recognized by many people. They have been quiet role models that lead by example. Their success was to see their children and grandchildren healthy and happy. Their legacy will live on for generations. Barb continues her support of St. Paul’s Church, various community projects, and the Northmont community.
